Liverpool are attempting to stay ahead of the curve this summer and are trying to get their transfer business done early.

The Reds are at the top and fans will be hoping that they can stay there for a little while longer, with the club targeting a period of dominance.

The same cannot be said for Manchester United as they have just experienced their worst Premier League campaign in history.

Finishing with their lowest-ever points tally and in 15th position, not forgetting losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur, the juxtaposition between Liverpool and United is as big as it has been in a long time.

Owners FSG appear to be heavily backing Arne Slot next season too as they target some of Europe’s biggest names, with Florian Wirtz’s move to Liverpool imminent.

However, with one star departing, Bayer Leverkusen need a replacement, and Manchester United could just lend Liverpool a helping hand and speed up the process.

Whoever is tasked with replacing Wirtz certainly has big boots to fill, with the German club’s new target not exactly like-for-like.

According to Diario AS, Leverkusen are considering signing Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho as Wirtz’s replacement.

The Argentine appears to have fallen out of favour with manager Ruben Amorim over recent weeks and, after being unhappy with the minutes he received in the Europa League final, has been allowed to leave the club.

This deal would also make a lot of sense as he would be reunited with former boss Erik ten Hag, suggesting that there is a high possibility in this deal happening, which spells good news for Liverpool.

With the Wirtz deal almost over the line, Leverkusen may finally let go of their star man after sourcing a replacement, suggesting that Liverpool are about to demolish the British transfer record and get their top target.

Even without the news that the German club may have found a replacement, Liverpool have been confident about signing Wirtz despite having two bids rejected.

Harvey Elliott is no longer wanted by Leverkusen, meaning that the Reds are expecting to pay around £126m for his services.

In fact, Liverpool are so confident that this deal will be done that they are already moving onto other targets, with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez expected to join soon.

Their business is not expected to be finished there either, with a centre-back and striker also wanted, making this transfer window potentially one for the ages.
