Liverpool have been chasing Alexander Isak all summer and they might still get one last shot.

The Reds have been desperate for a new number nine after running out of patience with Darwin Nunez, and Isak has always been their ‘dream’ target.

The Swede looked unattainable, however, and Liverpool turned their attention to Hugo Ekitike instead, with the Frenchman set to join in a deal worth up to £83m.

As we all know, things in football can change very quickly, and now, it appears Isak is now more gettable than first thought, with Newcastle leaving the door ajar for a potential exit for their star man.

Liverpool may already have a new striker about to come through the door at Anfield, but that does not mean they will not try again for a target they have pursued for so long.

Isak has not once expressed his desire to leave, but equally he has never shut down rumours surrounding a potential exit, hence why no one really knows where he will end up.

Although Liverpool appeared to be the most likely destination if he were to leave, L’Equipe have reported that this might not be the case anymore as Isak is open to negotiate with Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League.

The report states that the Saudi side have already begun talks with the Swede’s entourage and they are fully aware of a potential transfer happening.

Newcastle are said to have dropped their asking price to just €130m (£113m) as well, indicating that they are now willing to sell.

L’Equipe conclude by saying that by no means is the 25-year-old confirming a move to the Kingdom, but he is at least willing to hear them out and understand their financial and sporting argument of any type of deal.

However, with Isak a player who has previously expressed his desire to compete for the biggest trophies, it is unlikely that he would make the switch to Saudi Arabia, especially so early in his career.

That being said, a move to Liverpool could still very much be on the cards and the Reds would still be expected to make a move, even after welcoming Ekitike.

Signing the Swede is all well and good, but signing him means someone else, or many others, would have to make way.

Ekitike looks set to be Liverpool’s new starting striker, something that could change very quickly if Isak makes the switch.

However, the Reds would not want the Frenchman to just be a back-up after spending so much money on him, and with his ability to play off the left, it suggests Luis Diaz would very likely depart.

Nunez would also very likely have to leave, and so too Harvey Elliott, with Liverpool able to get a good amount of money for these three combined.

Somehow, Isak to Liverpool is not a story that is dead and buried, and there could be huge developments on the saga in the coming days.
