Liverpool lost youngster Yasser Larouci this past summer – and now he could be joining Manchester City’s sister club ESTAC Troyes.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who claim that Larouci is in talks to sign for Troyes after his Liverpool contract expired on June 30th.

Troyes won Ligue 2 last season, meaning they’re back in France’s top flight and looking to make big signings to keep them up.

Larouci is one of the players they want to sign, with his career currently in a strange place.

Formerly of Le Havre, Larouci attracted major interest as a youngster and decided to sign for Liverpool, where he appeared to be making good progress.

Branded ‘lightning quick’ by Barry Lewtas, Larouci made two first-team appearances for Liverpool in the 2019-20 season before a lost campaign.

The 20-year-old went into the final year of his contract with Liverpool and seemingly wouldn’t sign a new one, so he was frozen out.

Not only was Larouci not under consideration for the first team, but also at youth level. Larouci made just two Premier League 2 appearances last season, the last of which came in October.

Liverpool allowed Larouci’s contract to run out last month without much notice, and he will be desperate to get his career back on track.

What is really interesting about this move is that Troyes are owned by the City Football Group, meaning their sister club is Liverpool’s rivals Manchester City.

Issa Kabore has joined Troyes on loan from City, and if any young players thrive at Troyes, such as Brazilian ace Metinho, City will pretty much have a first option to sign them.

That means that if Larouci can get back on track and fulfil his potential in France, he could land himself a move to City – and secure a chance to show Liverpool what they’re missing.
