Liverpool are very keen to bring in a striker by the end of the transfer window and new targets keep popping up.

The Reds have had a different plan this summer compared to the past, as they have only been linked with a few names, but seemed to get the majority of them.

Now, however, new targets are starting to emerge, especially in attack, with Liverpool eager to sign a new number nine to revolutionise the team.

Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta is a new player being rumoured with a move, one that has come very much out of the blue.

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson is another player who has been somewhat linked out of nowhere, but Liverpool feel there is one key reason why they cannot sign him.

Whoever the Reds buy next as their new striker, they are really banking on them to succeed as Darwin Nunez has not and it has cost them a fortune.

The hierarchy need to ensure that they take their time with a decision to save themselves from any more embarrassment, with a Premier League-proven striker perhaps the route they will go down to reduce risk.

And, according to The Athletic, Jackson is a player that Richard Hughes liked when he was at Bournemouth, suggesting a move could be made.

After the Blues signed both Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, the Senegalese forward might be inclined to move, although Chelsea will likely not want to sell to a direct rival.

The report states that if Jackson played for another team, he would be a very realistic target for the Reds, but for now, it would take something special to make the new Club World Cup champions sell to them.

He would also cost a lot of money as the Blues only signed him two years ago for £32m, with the striker penning an eight-year deal.

At just 24, he would be a good addition for whoever picked him up, with Manchester United one of the clubs interested.

When he first arrived, comparisons with Nunez were made as he lacked composure in the final third and struggled to find form.

However, Jackson has certainly progressed more than the Uruguayan has and he has established himself as a decent Premier League striker, registering 15 goal involvements last season.

At just 24, he also has time on his side and plenty of chance to progress further, suggesting a bold move for him this summer might be quite a good idea.

He’d likely cost more than double what Chelsea paid for him but they might be willing to listen to offers given their two new signings, so could Jackson be the answer to Liverpool’s problems?
