Thiago Alcantara’s arrival at Liverpool from Bayern Munich in 2020 was met with great anticipation, and rightly so.
Known for his exceptional vision, passing range, and ability to control the tempo of a game, Thiago brought a wealth of experience and quality to the midfield.
He had just come off the back of winning a treble with the Bavarian giants.
Reds fans were desperate to see a different, perhaps more continental midfielder in an engine room that had traditionally been the least important part of the side.
His technical brilliance and composure on the ball promised to add a dimension to Liverpool’s play.
However, injuries plagued Thiago’s time at Anfield, disrupting his rhythm and limiting his impact on the pitch.
Despite showing glimpses of his immense talent whenever he played, his spells on the sidelines hampered his ability to fully integrate into the team and showcase his best self in a Liverpool shirt.
It was a shame to see such a gifted player struggle with fitness issues, as Liverpool fans eagerly awaited his consistent presence in the lineup.
Thiago’s time at Anfield is set to come to a close however, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
Besides common sense telling you that a club will likely not extend a deal for a player who is never available, Liverpool journalist Neil Jones has also shared that the Spaniard is expected to leave at the end of the campaign.
The latest report on Thiago
A report from Spain has claimed that the 32-year-old midfielder has two main options ahead of him this summer.
According to the report, Thiago wants to continue playing at high level despite his injury woes in the past calendar year.
His cameo off the bench away to Arsenal in the league remains his only appearance for the Reds this season.
Foreign teams such as Turkish clubs, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Flamengo and Al-Ettifaq have also expressed interest in the midfielder, offering him a variety of options to consider.
However, it is said that Flamengeo and Al-Ettifaq are the two main candidates vying for his services.
Thiago is one of the top earners in the Liverpool squad earning a reported €10m per year net per season – which means the Anfield hierarchy are happy to let him go.
It has also been reported elsewhere that the two-time Champions League winner could opt for Qatar because Thiago has been there multiple times and his brother Rafinha plays there for Al-Arabi.
