Liverpool have signed some top players this summer but have had to beat off stiff competition to get their targets.

The Reds have certainly had a transfer window for the ages and have thrown down the gauntlet to the rest of their rivals in the division.

The signings of Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez appear smart, while the likes of Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike are clear statements of intent.

Liverpool are not finished there yet either and are expected to complete a few more signings, and big ones too, before their curtain raiser against Bournemouth on 15th August.

However, there has been one attacker who they have been seriously considering and appear keen on making a move for, but they now face strong competition from Tottenham Hotspur.

Once they have completed the signing of Ekitike, the Reds are expected to sign a centre-back as well as another winger.

The latter is the bigger talking point as of late, with Real Madrid’s Rodrygo heavily linked with a move, although they now face even stronger competition for his signature.

According to Diario AS, Spurs have entered the race for the Brazilian after Daniel Levy promised new manager Thomas Frank significant backing this summer.

In typical Levy fashion, however, the current Tottenham chairman will be hoping to use his good relationship with Real Madrid to attempt to lower their asking price, with Los Blancos wanting around £69m to let him go.

Many would imagine that Rodrygo would much prefer a move to Anfield if he were to leave but his preference is not clear just yet, suggesting there is still a possibility he moves to North London.

It would certainly be a clear statement of ambition from Levy if he manages to pull it off, but if a move does appear possible, Liverpool will definitely be towards the front of the queue.

Over the next few days, Reds fans should get a little bit of clarity over the Luis Diaz situation as Bayern Munich are expected to place their second bid for him.

With the player wanting out of Liverpool, there is a chance they reluctantly accept the bid despite it being very likely to be less than what they want, with this then opening up the possibility of signing Rodrygo.

Journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that the Reds will only sign an attacker if Diaz leaves, highlighting how a lot rests on the Colombian.

Usually it is Real Madrid taking one of Liverpool’s players, so Reds fans will be hoping a move does open up so they can get at least a little bit of revenge on them.
