Report: Victor Osimhen's next club becomes more clear after £65m striker makes decision over future

Liverpool are desperate for a striker this summer but it is proving trickier than they perhaps first thought.

The Reds have been known for their free-flowing, attacking football over recent years and this has only continued under Arne Slot.

They scored more goals than any other team in the Premier League last season and despite this statistic, they are still very keen to improve their attack even further.

A striker is high up on the agenda, if not top of it, especially as Darwin Nunez’s Liverpool career looks set to be over this summer after a rather lacklustre three seasons.

After signing the Uruguayan for a club-record fee of £85m, they need to make sure they get it right this time, with there being plenty of options to choose from.

Victor Osimhen is one option who has been heavily linked and the striker has now decided where he wants to play next season, although it suggests Liverpool’s search will go on at least a little while longer.

Osimhen has firmly established himself as one of the best strikers in Europe, so it is no surprise the Reds are interested.

What made this potential deal even more exciting is that Napoli were interested in both Nunez and Federico Chiesa, suggesting a swap deal could have been made to cut the price.

However, according to Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool’s move for Osimhen is all but off as the Nigerian has expressed his desire to return to Galatasaray.

The report states that he has no desire to play in Saudi Arabia and his preference has always been to remain in Europe, with the striker enjoying his loan spell in Turkey so much that he would like to return.

The Italian outlet also reports that to move to the Premier League, Osimhen would need to significantly reduce his wages, something he is not willing to do in this case.

Napoli are still holding out for £64m and their interest in Nunez especially remains, suggesting that although this deal is now unlikely, it is not completely off the table.

Liverpool have been in desperate need of a striker this summer and identified many targets, although their options are starting to run out.

Of course, no Liverpool supporter wants to think of anything other than Diogo Jota in this incredibly tough moment right now, but for Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes, they still have a job to do, no matter how tough or wrong that may feel.

Viktor Gyokeres was another target but Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Swede is very close to joining Arsenal, with this now only really leaving Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike as options among those consistently linked.

That being said, Nunez could very well be given another shot to prove himself to Arne Slot this summer, something that will certainly leave fans divided.

On one hand, he has already had three seasons and missed far too many opportunities, but if something does eventually click, then Liverpool will have a seriously lethal striker on the books.

Their valuation of around £51m is also putting a lot of clubs off, suggesting they could decide to give him one last go, instead of spending big on another new arrival.
