Liverpool supporters were disappointed not to catch their first glimpse of Florian Wirtz on Sunday.
Fans had been excited to see Wirtz in action after he became the most expensive signing in the Reds’ history earlier this summer.
Sunday’s trip to face Preston North End represented the first opportunity to see the German in action for Liverpool.
However, there was surprise when the teams were announced that Wirtz was not included.
Arne Slot did not even name his blockbuster signing in the travelling squad of 25.
Quickly, it was established that Wirtz was not yet deemed ready to play after Liverpool’s disrupted start to pre-season training.
The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Alexis Mac Allister were also left out.
And with some of the Reds’ biggest names not on the pitch at Deepdale, it has been revealed what they got up to instead.

Understandably, Liverpool have operated a closed door policy at the AXA Training Centre since the players returned on Tuesday.
This has meant supporters have not yet been able to see much from Wirtz and his fellow new signings.

The hope had been that acquaintances would be made on Sunday, but while this was the case for Giorgi Mamardashvili, Freddie Woodman, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, Wirtz’s introduction will have to wait.
According to The Athletic, this did not mean that the £116m man had his feet up on Sunday, though.

They claim that Wirtz, along with senior players like Van Dijk, Alisson, Mac Allister, Luis Diaz and Ibrahima Konate, reported to the Liverpool training ground to do some ‘individual work.’
Van Dijk, Mac Allister and Diaz were picked up by cameras at Deepdale throughout the day, although it is yet to be confirmed whether Wirtz was inside the ground with the rest of the Liverpool squad.
Although it was disappointing not to see Wirtz on Sunday, it was definitely the right decision not to take any risks for the game.
Liverpool’s next fixture does not arrive for 12 more days, meaning the Germany international now has plenty of time to build his fitness even further.
The Reds travel to Hong Kong to face AC Milan on Saturday July 26th, and it would be a surprise if Wirtz does not make his debut in the Far East.
Between now and then, further work will be done at the AXA Training Centre, but it remains to be seen whether supporters are given any inside access.
