The transfer window is officially open as Liverpool look to make the necessary additions to their squad.
It is expected to be a busy off-season for the Reds, with Jeremie Frimpong’s arrival representing their first piece of business already.
There will be more to come, as Arne Slot attempts to assemble a team capable of winning the Premier League back-to-back.
The signing of Florian Wirtz should help them do that.
Liverpool are in negotiations to sign Wirtz for a club record fee after he turned down a possible move to Bayern Munich.
However, with the eventual price set to exceed £100m, things are moving slowly between the Reds and Leverkusen.
As supporters begin to get anxious that the deal could collapse, it has been revealed whether a breakthrough is expected before Germany face Portugal on Wednesday.

After seeing off the threat of Bayern, it had been expected that Liverpool would have no trouble negotiating a fee with Leverkusen.
The two clubs have just done business for Frimpong after all, with some links already having been sewn.

However, the Bundesliga side are, understandably, not keen to lose Wirtz for anything less than an acceptable value.
And according to BILD on Sunday, the two clubs’ expectations on the money are still ‘diverging’.

As a result, they claim that as of Sunday morning, there was still yet to be an agreement over Wirtz.
This reportedly makes it unlikely that a deal will be struck before the 22-year-old plays in the Nations League semi-final on Wednesday.
Germany take on Portugal in Munich, with Wirtz set to come up against potential future teammate Diogo Jota.
This is an example of when the post-season international games can really impact on the transfer window.
Obviously, Wirtz will be keen to get things sorted with Liverpool and will be aiming for that in the coming days.
But the Nations League is also taken relatively seriously by the players taking part in it.
As a result, Wirtz will want to be focused on getting Germany to the final, where they would meet either Spain or France.
With that game set to take place next Sunday, along with a third-placed play-off, the attacking midfielder is rather preoccupied as he stands on the cusp of a record-breaking transfer.
As the first transfer window of the summer is open until June 10th, Liverpool will want to get things done and dusted before then.
