Wolves have enjoyed a fine season under manager Gary O’Neil despite pre-season predictions that they could struggle.

The former Bournemouth manager has got his side playing some exceptional football at times.

Wolves are sitting comfortably above the relegation zone and are currently 11th with 35 points.

Although unlikely, there is a chance that Wolves could even make a push for the UEFA Conference or Europa League spot.

They are three points off Brighton in 7th place, and stranger things have happened in football.

However, the negative side of performing well as a so-called ‘smaller team’ is the danger of ‘bigger’ clubs coming to poach talent.

Brighton waved goodbye to Alexis Mac Allister when the Reds came calling.

Diogo Jota was promptly picked up from Wolves when Liverpool needed reinforcements in 2020.

And it seems that the Anfield club could once again shop at the Molineux Stadium in the summer.

Liverpool discover price-tag of Wolves man Pedro Neto

The Reds have been consistently linked with Pedro Neto ahead of what will likely be a busy summer transfer window for Liverpool.

With three goals and ten assists in 18 games in all competitions this season, Neto has been in excellent form for the Wolves.

When Liverpool defeated Wolves 3-1 at the Molineux early on in the season, Neto showed the Anfield management what he could do.

The winger had his way with Joe Gomez for large parts of the game and provided the assist for Wolves’ only goal.

David Ornstein has today reported that Wolves are looking for a whopping £80m for the services of Neto.

It is a huge amount being quoted, but Ornstein has proved to be reliable.

This also agrees with a report from The Standard who said that Wolves want a ‘club-record’ offer in order to part ways with the winger.

The only blemish for Neto is his injury record.

Already this season, the 23-year-old has missed eight Premier League games for Wolves due to injury.

Neto missed 27 games last season due to an ankle injury, and he lost nearly a full year in 2021 due to a knee issue.

Given the struggles the Reds occasionally have with player injuries, a more reliable solution might be chosen in the summer.
