Birmingham City have explored the possibility of signing attacking midfielder Dele Alli but have decided not to progress with a deal, sources have told Football Insider.
The Championship new boys have looked into taking the 29-year-old on a free transfer following his departure from Italian side Como.
However, sources say Birmingham have decided the deal is not right for them after checking the conditions of a deal and will not be making the former Tottenham man an offer.
Alli made just one appearance for Como, in which he was sent off against AC Milan, and is now a free agent after his contract with the Serie A club expired.
Alli is a free agent
Since his departure from Tottenham at the beginning of 2022, Alli has struggled to recreate the form that had seen him become a key player for club and country.
Through a mixture of injuries and well-documented off-field problems, the midfielder has barely played any football over the past two years.
The move to Como appeared to be a chance for Alli to revitalise his career following his exit from Everton, but he never got going in Serie A and is now seeking a new challenge.

Alli is seemingly interested in a move back to England, and while he is unlikely to get a Premier League club, there could be sides in the Championship willing to take a chance on him.
Alli has struggled in recent years
Dele Alli could have been a Tottenham and England legend.
Instead, he will be remembered as a very-good rather than a great, and a nearly man in a nearly team, a cornerstone of Mauricio Pochettino’s vibrant side that so nearly won the Premier League title but could never quite get over the finish line.
An attacking midfielder with a Frank Lampard-esque ability to time his runs into the box and score all types of goals, at his peak he was the real deal.
Pochettino’s empathy and ability to coax the best from young talents was perfect at the time for Alli, who was nearly as crucial to the Spurs team of the time as the main man Harry Kane.
