Conor Gallagher has already made up his mind about leaving Atletico Madrid in January amid interest from Tottenham, Crystal Palace and Man United.

The England international has been heavily linked with a return to the Premier League, with Tottenham tipped to enter a bidding war for Gallagher when the window opens.

However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 25-year-old is unlikely to leave Madrid mid-way through the season.

Sources say he is focusing on becoming a key player under Diego Simeone and is not prepared to take a major risk as he eyes a place in Thomas Tuchel‘s World Cup squad.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 19 September that Atletico Madrid are reluctant to sell Gallagher and will demand Tottenham pay a “huge” fee for his services.

Football Insider revealed on 1 August that Tottenham could miss out on signing Gallagher as Atletico Madrid had no plans to let him leave during the summer.

Sources say those plans are unlikely to change mid-way through the window as he still has a significant role to play in their squad for the rest of the season.

As a result, Gallagher is likely to snub interest from Tottenham despite their ambitions to bring him to North London to strengthen their midfield options.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “It would be a hard deal to do.

It’s no surprise that there were some clubs sniffing around Gallagher in the summer.

“He’s been in and out of the Atletico Madrid side, not played as many minutes as he would like in La Liga, but he did start in the Champions League against Liverpool.

“That makes it a difficult deal to do in January due to the fee involved and obviously Atletico would need to bring in a replacement for him as well.

“Thinking about Gallagher himself, would he want to move midway through the season, especially in a World Cup year as well?

“Again, that might be another thing that might have to come into the players thinking he might stay at Atletico Madrid where he is settled.

“As long as he’s getting the minutes, I’m sure he’ll be happy to stay there.”

Interest from rivals including Crystal Palace and Man United, both of whom made moves during the summer, are also expected to fall flat as a result.

Thomas Frank was left frustrated at Tottenham after James Maddison’s injury left them without a direct replacement despite the late signing of Xavi Simons.

As a result, transfer plans are already being put in place for the mid-season window, with Gallagher having emerged as an option to bolster in midfield.

With Atletico likely to demand a huge fee to let him go, and the midfielder reluctant to make a mid-season switch, Spurs will likely be made to look elsewhere.

Star names such as Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers have been on Spurs’ shortlist, with more attacking midfield options also high on Frank’s list.

Football Insider revealed on 12 September that Aston Villa could be forced to sell Rogers if they cannot resolve their ongoing concerns surrounding PSR.
