Aston Villa are set to pay a bill of over £10million in additional wages this season after signing Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United.

Sancho‘s uncertain future at Old Trafford has finally been resolved for the next 12 months at least after he sealed a last-ditch move to Villa Park on deadline day, which was confirmed beyond the cut-off point.

Aston Villa also announced the signing of Harvey Elliott on loan with an option to buy, bolstering Unai Emery‘s attacking options 24 hours on from his side being humbled 3-0 by Crystal Palace at Villa Park.

Sancho was in make-or-break territory prior to his loan being confirmed at the eleventh hour following a summer in which he was ostracised from the first-team picture at Man United, after Chelsea reneged on their own deal to buy the winger this summer.

Emery has bulked up his squad with the respective loan signings of Sancho and Elliott as well as blocking Leeds’ loan bid for Emi Buendia, but Villa’s pair of deadline day arrivals will not come cheap this season.

Elliott‘s obligation-to-buy is dependent on appearances but will amount to £35million next summer, and Ben Jacobs reported via X on Monday that Villa will pay at least 80 per cent of Sancho’s wage packet.

Sancho’s weekly wage amounts to £250,000 with a further £100,000 in potential bonuses according to Capology, amounting to a base salary of £13million which Villa will pay well over £10.4m in order to fund.

Jacobs’ report also details that Man United are confident that with Sancho’s loan fee and achievable bonuses considered, Villa will be covering the 25-year-old’s wage in its entirety by the end of his loan.

Football Insider Verdict

Elliott has been hot property this summer with a number of top clubs interested in signing the 22-year-old, and Football Insider revealed on 9 August that Tottenham were keen on a move of up to £50million.

Sancho, by contrast, has been dragging his feet as Man United tried to offload him and his huge wages in increasingly desperate fashion, only for the Red Devils to find a willing club in the form of Aston Villa.

Man United even had the option of biding their time on Sancho with a view to sending him to Turkey or Saudi Arabia with their extended transfer deadlines, but with Villa happy to pay over 80 per cent of his wages, United have moved their problem onto another club.
