Gianluigi Donnarumma will replace James Trafford as Manchester City’s first-choice goalkeeper, sources have told Football Insider.

City confirmed the signing of Donnarumma on Tuesday (2 September) morning, with the Italian joining from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth around £30million.

Pep Guardiola was able to add the 26-year-old to his goalkeeping ranks, following the sale of Ederson to Turkish side Fenerbahçe.

Sources say that Donnarumma is likely to come in and immediately replace Trafford, who has had a difficult start to life back in Manchester.

After the addition of Donnarumma, Man City now have three top-class goalkeepers vying for one starting position in the side.

The Italy international and Trafford are backed up by Stefan Ortega, who has often deputised for the departed Ederson in the past and always performed well when called upon.

City have had a poor start to the season, with their 2-0 defeat to Tottenham being compounded by a 2-1 loss away at Brighton, in which they conceded a last-minute winner.

Meanwhile, Ilkay Gundogan is reportedly closing in on a move away from Man City after Galatasaray reached an agreement over a permanent deal for the midfielder.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that Guardiola has given the green light for the 34-year-old to move on.

This comes after reports on 1 September claimed that Galatasaray were in advanced talks to sign Gundogan, with the deal now expected to be finalised.

The transfer window in England closed at 7pm on 1 September, but Turkish clubs, including Galatasaray, have until 12 September to complete their business.
