Man United are pushing to agree a deal to sign RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko after making him their top target in the final month of the transfer window.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the 22-year-old’s future.

Leipzig are planning to play hard-ball over the price tag and will hold out for around £70million, as they plan to use Hugo Ekitike’s move to Liverpool as a reference for his fee.

Football Insider revealed on 22 July that Man United could make a move for Sesko after he came close to joining Arsenal earlier in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners had been keen to sign the Slovenia international before pivoting their interest towards Viktor Gyokeres as a result of his lofty price tag.

Meanwhile, former United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in June that Man United are working on signing a striker after Gyokeres made clear his desire to join Arsenal.

Football Insider exclusively revealed in March that Arsenal were leading the race to sign Sesko before they ultimately decided Gyokeres was the better value deal.

United, however, are determined to land the Leipzig forward and are now prepared to do everything in their power to bring him in before the window closes.

O’Rourke explained that, while the deal may be difficult to get over the line, United are confident they can reach his asking price and ultimately agree a deal.

“Man United are saying they’ve got the money to pull off a deal for Sesko,” he told Football Insider.

“He won’t be cheap, RB Leipzig are holding out for a fee in the region of £70million.

“They’re looking at the Ekitike deal after Liverpool signed him from Frankfurt and using that as a barometer to say they should be getting the same fee for Sesko.

“Sesko’s future has been subject to speculation all summer.

“Arsenal showed an interest in him, but weren’t willing to go to the figures that Leipzig were looking for.

“Man United are confident they can get to those figures and have made him their number one choice to come in as their new striker this summer.

“United are pushing to try and get a deal done for Sesko, he’s the preferred choice and they’re trying to get a deal over the line, but it won’t be easy.

While United remain focused on bringing in players to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad this summer, plans remain in place to shift a number of high-profile stars.

Brown told Football Insider on 29 July that Tottenham remain interested in signing Alejandro Garnacho and could accelerate their plans in the closing stages of the window.

This comes as Son Heung-min has been strongly linked with MLS and Saudi Pro League clubs, with Garnacho viewed as his potential replacement.

Brown told Football Insider last month that Tottenham are preparing an offer for Garnacho and will rival the likes of Chelsea and Aston Villa for his signature.
