Revealed: New study shows Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have been evenly matched in terms of major trophies vs money spent since the Liverpool boss took charge... but it makes grim reading for Chelsea and Man United

It may seem as if Man City have dominated their rivalry with Liverpool since Jurgen Klopp became manager but the picture becomes different when you look at net spend.

City have won five of the last six Premier League titles, edging Liverpool by just one point in two of those.

Under Klopp, Liverpool have enjoyed success too, winning the Champions League in 2018-19 before going on to win the Premier League the following season.

While things may appear one-sided in favour of Pep Guardiola, City's dominance becomes much more apparent when the money spent on each team is taken into account.

Sky Sports have analysed this and found that while Man City have won 15 major trophies to Liverpool's seven in that time, the Sky blues have spent almost double the amount.

The Reds have spent £346m while City have had an outlay of £630m in the same period.

Meanwhile, Chelsea and Man United have spent £1billion to win six and four respectively.

Arsenal have an outlay of £702m for just two trophies during that time while Spurs have spent £570m for no return.

The Gunners, who could be on the cusp of winning their first Premier League title in 20 years, invested heavily in the summer transfer window - signing Declan Rice for £105million.

Meanwhile, Chelsea and Man United have spent £1billion to win six and four respectively.

Guardiola has previously stated that Man City would be 'killed' if they spent as much as Chelsea.

'We'd be under scrutiny like you couldn't imagine,' Guardiola said after Chelsea had crossed the £1bn mark this year.

'I couldn't sit here if we spent what Chelsea spent in the last two transfer windows - you would kill me.

'We have to see what happens in the market and if we can do it and to pay what we believe is fair... In the end, we will pay what is fair to do it. Otherwise, we have the academy.'

'I don't criticise Chelsea for one second,' Guardiola added. 'I'm saying, if we do it, we're dead, all around the world. They can do what they want.

'If they want to spend, I don't know, 900 million pounds since (Boehly) arrived, 900 more, 900 more - they have it. The business is the business. They sell a lot this season so they can do it.'
