Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has been left “frustrated” as a result of what has been a difficult transfer window so far.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the manager’s contract situation and long-term future with one year left on his deal at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles have spent the least of any team in Europe’s top five leagues following last season’s FA Cup win and subsequent European qualification.

Glasner had been outspoken about his desire to bolster his squad early in the window, but just two players have arrived so far, leaving him short once again.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 13 August that Palace are at risk of losing Glasner alongside a number of key players.

Uncertainty about the futures of Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi has compounded Palace’s difficult window, while a potential exodus could take place next year.

Complications surrounding Crystal Palace‘s Europa League qualification and eventual demotion to the Conference League had scuppered their early plans.

Meanwhile, the lack of player sales have seen the club struggle to bolster their kitty as seen with major sales elsewhere, delaying their ambitious moves.

O’Rourke explained that Glasner has been disappointed with the window, although he remains happy at Palace despite concerns about matching his ambitions.

“He’ll be disappointed that Palace haven’t gone out and spent more money to strengthen their squad,” he told Football Insider.

“Glasner has done a great job, winning the FA Cup and Community Shield, and the club will be doing all they can to keep him around.

“I’m sure he’s is happy overall, but it’s about wanting the club to back him and his ambitions, he wants to take Palace to the next level if he can.

“He wants to become regulars in the top six, possibly the top four in a couple of years.

“The starting XI right now is probably good enough, but the squad needs strengthening.

“He wants to build on the success they’ve had, but he has been frustrated that they’ve not been able to go out and spend big money on players.

“Europe’s going to be an extra burden with so many games coming, and Glasner like any manager wants as many players in as possible.

“I don’t think there’s any panic from Palace about his long-term future.

“He seems happy despite those frustrations, and we expect Palace to be busy in the closing stages of the transfer window.”

One player the Eagles have set their sights on as they look to strengthen Glasner’s options is Leicester City star Bilal El Khannouss.

Football Insider revealed that Palace are interested in signing El Khannouss as a replacement for Eze should he make a move to Spurs late in the window.

The attacking midfielder had a £30million release clause in his contract at the King Power Stadium, and while that is now said to have expired, a deal is not off the cards.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 15 August that Tottenham are leading the race for Eze and are stepping up their pursuit after James Maddison’s injury.
