Russell Martin is under “huge” pressure at Rangers after a slow start to his time in charge and fans are already beginning to turn on the boss.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the manager’s future at Ibrox amid growing discontent from the supporters.
Martin’s side have drawn all three of their opening SPFL games against Motherwell, Dundee and St Mirren, and were smashed 3-0 by Club Brugge in the Champions League.
Frustration is continuing to build amongst the supporters, but pressure from the stands at Ibrox is currently believed to be greater than that from the boardroom.
Rangers fans showed their discontent at Ibrox as many left the ground after just 20 minutes against Brugge, raising questions about the boss’ position.
However, Football Insider revealed on 22 August that Rangers are not expected to sack Martin despite the “embarrassing” showing against Brugge last week.

While there are clear concerns about what has been a poor start to the season, Football Insider revealed Rangers are targeting three new signings to further back the boss.

Before the transfer window closes on 1 September, they are keen to lend their support to Martin to give him the tools he needs to succeed at Ibrox.
O’Rourke explained that the manager is not currently under any significant pressure from the board, but the fans are not happy with their performances.
“There’s always pressure when you’re in a huge club like Rangers,” he told Football Insider.
“Pressure will only continue to build, especially if they have more performances like against Club Brugge in that opening 20 minutes.

“They’ve dropped points in the league.
“If they were to crash out of the Champions League before the league stage as well, that’d be a huge blow.
“The pressure is on Russell Martin to deliver.
“From what I’m told there’s not a massive pressure anywhere from the board.
“Probably is that huge pressure coming from the fan base because they’re not happy with the results and the performances right now.
“But I think the club will know he’s only early in his tenure and he will need time to turn things around.”
While there are plans in place to continue to back Martin this summer, Rangers remain concerned that they may yet lose at least one key player.
Football Insider revealed on 16 August that Rangers are expecting offers for Hamza Igamane and Nicolas Raskin before the transfer window closes.

Should either of Rangers’ star players leave, the club are prepared to use the money from their sales to reinvest and strengthen the first-team squad.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 12 August that Rangers are expecting to receive offers for Igamane as interest continues to grow from across Europe.
