Thiago made the decision to retire this week and the announced the news on Instagram on Monday.

While it may have come as a surprise to some, the amount of injuries he suffered in his final two campaigns at Anfield always made it a distinct possibility.

The Spaniard was undoubtedly one of the most gifted midfielders of his generation and grace some of the biggest stages in world football.

He joined Anfield having just come off winning a sextuple with Bayern Munich and playing a key role in that side as well.

Thiago played 98 games for Liverpool over his four years at Anfield but missed 123 games absences due to injuries which unfortunately makes for grim reading.

His final appearance in a Liverpool shirt was a 5-minute cameo off the bench during a defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates in February.

The 33-year-old then opted to retire upon the expiration of his Liverpool contract, with plenty of Slot’s men taking to Instagram to pay their respects to Thiago.

What is the latest report on Thiago amid Hansi Flick proposal?

Barcelona based newspaper Sport previously reported that the German manager wants Thiago to join his coaching staff at the Camp Nou.

Thiago played under Hansi Flick at Bayern, with the Spaniard a huge cog in the German’s system that won the sextuple back in 2020.

The Spaniard has been identified as a desirable asset as he can speak German and Spanish fluently, which will help ease Flick’s transitional period.

He also used to play for Barcelona and came up through the La Masia academy, meaning he is someone who knows the club inside out.

Alcantara posted a cryptic post on X, thanking everyone who had contributed to his career.

“See you soon,” Alcantara added, suggesting that he is not leaving football.

However, now Marca have come out with a report suggesting that Thiago is not returning to football quite so soon.

The Spanish outlet have reported Thiago is a ‘close friend’ of Hansi Flick, and that the German would ‘like to have him by his side.’

But the situation is described as complex and muddied, and it is thought that the former Liverpool man would like to have a period of time to reflect away from football.

“He values the proposal made by Flick very positively, but he is not sure about accepting it,” Marca adds.

It is thought that the former player isn’t ready to join Barcelona’s staff full time, but he is willing to work with him on a part-time/advisory basis.
