Lucas Paqueta will “reluctantly” be allowed to leave West Ham United for the right price by Monday’s transfer cut-off, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have said about Paqueta’s uncertain future at the London Stadium.

Paqueta has travelled with West Ham’s squad ahead of their clash against Nottingham Forest on Sunday after Aston Villa saw a loan-to-buy offer rejected, with Graham Potter clinging onto his star Brazilian.

Tottenham have also expressed interest in Paqueta alongside signing Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, and sources have told Football Insider that West Ham will “reluctantly” cash in on him if the price is right.

Football Insider sources have said that with money being tight in East London, West Ham would use the money raised from Paqueta‘s potential sale to strengthen Potter’s squad in the final hours of the window.

West Ham’s acquisition of Mateus Fernandes from Southampton is set to pave the way for Paqueta’s departure, but Villa have re-entered the race and could be on the brink of striking a deal with the Irons.

Speaking on the new Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke stated that Paqueta could well be on his way out of the London Stadium before the window closes, as Potter looks to bolster other areas of his squad.

“West Ham, right now, would reluctantly cash in Paqueta if it allowed them to use that money to strengthen the squad elsewhere”, he told Football Insider.

“Money’s been tight at the London Stadium this summer – they haven’t done loads of big business – so they might have to sell one of their best players to help boost their transfer funds.

“There are a number of clubs who’d be willing to take Lucas Paqueta, if West Ham decide to let him go before the end of the window.”

West Ham’s stance on Paqueta’s future could see them lose both the Brazilian and Mohammed Kudus in the same summer, with Fernandes and Callum Wilson the only attack-minded signings made in return.

The prospect of Kudus and Paqueta ending up at the same club left Spurs fans gloating at West Ham’s “meltdown”, but Aston Villa have overtaken Tottenham in that contest and now look set to sign him.

Villa and West Ham have both endured difficult transfer windows on the incomings front this summer, but a £47million loan-to-buy move could suit all parties as Paqueta prepares to sport a different shade of claret and blue.
