Xabi Alonso is undoubtedly the most coveted manager heading into the summer transfer window.
The Spaniard has transformed Bayer Leverkusen since his appointment in October 2022, taking the club from relegation candidates to Bundesliga title challengers in less than a season.
His side are currently on a 38-game unbeaten run stretching back to last season, eclipsing Pep Guardiola’s previous Bundesliga record of 33 games unbeaten with Bayern Munich.
Alonso’s side are currently top of the Bundesliga with an 10-point lead and look good value to stay there.
The Spaniard has guided Leverkusen into the semi-final of the DFB-Pokal as well the quarter-final of the Europa League.
With Liverpool and Bayern Munich both without managers next season, the pair are both aiming to land the 42-year-old for next season.
Reports from Sky Germany maintain that Alonso would opt for the Bavarian club should he leave Bayer Leverkusen.
Meanwhile, a separate report this week suggested that Liverpool are willing to ‘break the bank’ to bring the former midfielder to back to Merseyside.
But now a big update from Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has helped shed light on the matter.
Balague has is thought to share a good relationship with Alonso, and first revealed Alonso’s desire to manage Liverpool back in 2018.
What did Guillem Balague say about Xabi Alonso?
Writing on X, the Spanish journalist has claimed that Alonso is ‘determined’ to decide his next step as a manger in the coming weeks.
Balague maintains that nothing has been decided as yet.
He writes:
