Former Rangers goalkeeping coach Colin Stewart has earned a dream job at Liverpool just months after leaving Ibrox.

Stewart spent a decade at the Light Blues and garnered a strong reputation but was shown the door when Philippe Clement was axed, as interim boss Barry Ferguson brought in his old team-mate Allan McGregor.

But Stewart, son of former Scotland goalkeeper Jim, has returned to the game with the English Premier League champions where he has been appointed to the club's coaching staff.

The 45-year-old is well known to Arne Slot’s new Liverpool assistant Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who worked with Stewart during his time in charge at Rangers.

Explaining Stewart’s role as they made the announcement on the Liverpool website, they said he “will support Xavi Valero – back at Liverpool as head of first-team goalkeeper coaching – on a daily basis in working with the Reds’ senior stoppers on and off the pitch.

“Additionally, Stewart will oversee the loan strategies of goalkeepers who are in the process of making the step up from youth level to senior experience, serving as a link between the men’s squad, loan management team and U21s group.

Stewart earned one Scotland Under-21 cap during his own playing career during which he played for various clubs, including Kilmarnock, Ross County, Partick Thistle and Livingston.
