In an extraordinary finale at St James’ Park, Liverpool secured a dramatic 100th-minute victory over Newcastle United thanks to a sensational strike from 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha.

The match got off to a thrilling start as Ryan Gravenberch fired the Reds into the lead.

However, Newcastle were soon reduced to 10 men when Anthony Gordon was sent off just before half-time for a reckless challenge on Virgil van Dijk.

Despite the setback, the Reds extended their advantage shortly after the break as Hugo Ekitike slotted in a second, putting the reigning champions in a commanding position.

Newcastle, however, fought back with determination.

Bruno Guimaraes’ header pulled one back, and Will Osula later equalised, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.

In stoppage time, Ngumoha, coming off the bench, struck a spectacular winner to send Liverpool fans into raptures.

The teenager made history by becoming only the second 16-year-old to score a winning goal in the Premier League, following Wayne Rooney’s feat for Everton against Arsenal in October 2002.

Remarkably, Ngumoha is a day younger than Rooney was at the time, at 16 years and 361 days old as per Opta Joe.

Ngumoha has made history by becoming Liverpool’s youngest ever goal scorer.

The previous record was held by Ben Woodburn.

He is also the youngest player to score on his league debut, a record previously held by Michael Owen.
