Liverpool starlet Rio Ngumoha has made his feelings clear on new signing Hugo Ekitike after the Frenchman opened his goalscoring account for the Reds against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Arne Slot’s side kicked off their 2025/26 campaign with the Community Shield clash against the FA Cup winners at Wembley Stadium over the weekend but were narrowly edged out on penalties after the game finished 2-2 in 90 minutes.
Ekitike opened the scoring for Liverpool following some clever link-up play with Florian Wirtz, while Jeremie Frimpong also opened his account with an audacious effort from a tight angle.
However, Palace caused problems of their own as Virgil van Dijk was penalised for a foul on Ismaila Sarr, and Jean-Philippe Mateta made no mistake from the penalty spot.
Sarr then got on the scoresheet himself late in the game, which was ultimately decided by penalties.

Ngumoha, who has been a standout performer for Liverpool throughout pre-season with two goals and two assists across four appearances, was one of the first to congratulate Ekitike on his debut goal for the club.
But proud to have played my first official game with Liverpool and scored my first goal.”
The teenager was among a handful of teammates to comment on the post, along with Wirtz, Frimpong, Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones.
Ngumoha left a flames emoji, followed by raised hands.

Ekitike is now one of four senior attackers at Liverpool following the recent departures of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.
They then face a tricky visit to St James' Park against Newcastle United, before ending the month with the visit of rivals Arsenal.
