Rob Page has taken the reins as Liverpool’s new U21s head coach, stepping into the role following Barry Lewtas’ departure earlier this summer.
The former Wales boss described the opportunity as “massive” and revealed he was immediately drawn to the club’s stature and direction.
“I’ve always known this was a big club and now being part of it from the inside, wow!” said Page to Liverpool FC.
After leading Wales to their first World Cup appearance in over six decades and reaching the knockout stages of Euro 2020, Page is returning to a development-focused role that he finds deeply fulfilling.
“Development football was always something I was interested in with Wales,” he explained.
“So for me to come back into development football at a massive club like Liverpool — it was definitely an exciting option for me.”

Page has wasted no time making changes, prioritizing closer collaboration with the U18s squad to streamline the development pathway.
“They train at the same time as us now,” he said.
With a strong belief in Liverpool’s existing structure, Page stressed that his focus is on fostering hunger, professionalism and adaptability in his squad.
He also singled out Jay Spearing for praise, calling him a role model for young players.
“Sometimes when he joins in he still likes a tackle or two.” Page joked.
As pre-season progresses, Page has already seen signs of progress, especially in the squad’s pressing and aggression.
With experienced figures like Lewis Koumas leading by example, the head coach is optimistic.
