Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler believes Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins is the ideal signing for his former club if they are to switch their striker this summer.
With the transfer window now open it remains uncertain whether Darwin Nunez will last the duration on Merseyside, or indeed certain attacking partners.
Watkins has consistently been near the top of the English goalscoring charts and gained a strong reputation for being a handful for defenders in the five years he has been a Villa player.
Only Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland have found the net more times than the Englishman in that timeframe.
He has remained in the Midlands despite constant transfer speculation, the latest of which has been offered up by a former Anfield favourite.

Nicknamed 'God' for contributing 183 goals during his time with the Reds, Fowler asked his followers on X to provide him with entertainment in the form of a Q&A whilst he was aboard a recent flight.
One replied asking for thoughts on which striker is 'best suited' to Liverpool's system under Arne Slot or if a player in the same ilk of Paris Saint-Germain's front three—Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia—is needed.
"I'd take Ollie Watkins...
works hard, got goals in him," Fowler responded.

As highlighted, Watkins' record in front of goal is one of the best in England in recent times.
He has scored 87 times since signing for Villa in a £28m deal from Brentford in 2020, and whilst it seems this could give Fowler's theory strong foundation, there is one brutal flaw to be aware of.
In December Watkins will be turning 30 years old, so does not fit the typical profile of players Liverpool would go out of their way to target.
Still, questions over the Reds' attack force are set to linger until definitive announcements arrive.
Nunez, scorer of only seven goals in 2024/25, could leave Anfield after arriving three years ago.
He has not started a match under Slot since March and continues to be at the centre of rumours over a move to Saudi Arabia.

Fellow striker Diogo Jota also lacked in front of goal, scoring nine whilst combating injury, but less has been made of his long-term future.
Meanwhile Cody Gakpo is reportedly of interest to Bayern Munich, though it is hard to envisage his departure when Slot favours him, and most importantly Luis Diaz's position seems to be coming to a head.
With the window open he is approaching the final two years of his contract at Anfield.
