Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have led the tributes to Diogo Jota as a number of his old team-mates honoured the Liverpool forward following his tragic death at the age of 28.

The Portuguese was killed in a car accident, alongside his brother, Andre Silva, when travelling in the Zamora region of Sanabria.

It is understood the vehicle suffered a tyre blowout when heading towards Benavente, with Zamora News reporting that emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 1am on Thursday morning.



?According to the Zamora provincial council, firefighters attended the scene on the A52, known as the Palacios de Sanabria, after the vehicle caught fire.

Tributes have flooded in from the world of football and beyond for the Portugal international, with a number of Liverpool icons who played alongside the forward at Anfield taking to social media to pay tribute to their former team-mate.

Firmino posted a number of pictures of himself and Jota in action for the Reds on Instagram, as he wrote: “When words fail, there are only inexpressible groans.

Rest in Peace to my brother Jota, and Andre.”

Mane, meanwhile, posted on his Instagram story as he shared a picture of the two celebrating a goal away at Man City along with two broken heart emojis and a sad face.

Naby Keita posted two updates on his Instagram story as he shared two pictures of himself alongside Jota in action for Liverpool and in training.

Alongside the pictures, the Guinean wrote: “I will never forget you bro.

RIP Diogo”.

Xherdan Shaqiri wrote, “RIP Brother” on his Instagram story, along with a picture of the two celebrating a goal for Liverpool.

Gini Wijnaldum shared FC Porto’s own Instagram post confirming the death of both Jota and Silva as he wrote: “Rest in peace.”

Arthur Melo shared a picture of himself in training alongside Jota as he wrote: “Heartbroken by the news.

Rest in peace, Diogo,” on his own Instagram story alongside a picture of the pair.

Meanwhile, Neco Williams posted a dressing room selfie of himself and Jota as he wrote: “One of the really good people out there.
