Reports from Spanish journalist Ramon Alvarez, Real Madrid striker Rodrygo prioritises a move to Liverpool over any other club if he were to leave the Spanish club.
Rodrygo has emerged as a potential target for Liverpool in recent days, with speculation intensifying due to growing uncertainty around Luis Díaz’s future.
The Colombian winger is attracting strong interest from several clubs, with Bayern Munich currently leading the race for his signature.
The Bundesliga giants are reportedly close to finalising a deal worth around £70 million — a move that would significantly boost Liverpool’s transfer budget.
The funds from Díaz’s departure are expected to be reinvested into the squad, including the acquisition of a suitable replacement.
According to multiple reports, Liverpool view Rodrygo as a prime candidate to fill that role.
One report claims that the Merseyside club have already initiated contact with the Brazilian’s representatives and are prepared to make a serious push to bring him to Anfield.
In an intriguing twist, a Spanish source suggested Liverpool’s interest in Rodrygo may also be partly driven by a desire to get one over Real Madrid, adding a layer of rivalry to the potential transfer.
However, Liverpool aren’t the only club involved.
A fresh report from Spain on Monday revealed that Tottenham have also entered the race, having opened discussions with Rodrygo’s camp as they monitor the situation closely.
Spanish journalist Ramón Álvarez de Mon, speaking on his YouTube channel, said:
“I do have some pretty concrete information in relation to his current situation.
“Rodrygo is still on vacation, he doesn’t join up with Madrid until 4th August for pre-season.”
“I have to tell you that I know that he has recently started talks with Tottenham.”
De Mon explains that Tottenham have been trying to convince Real Madrid on their project:
“It’s a project that is expected to change ownership if it is not doing so already.”
However, the journalist has provided a fresh update on the Brazilian winger’s transfer desire, revealing that Rodrygo’s preference will be to join Liverpool should he leave Real Madrid.
“Indeed, Rodrygo’s preference is Liverpool,” he posted on X as a followup on his earlier assertion that Tottenham have opened talks with the winger.
As the transfer window unfolds, Rodrygo’s situation is quickly becoming one to watch.
While Tottenham have made early moves and Real Madrid remain firm on their stance, the Brazilian’s clear preference for Liverpool could prove decisive.
With Luis Díaz’s potential departure edging closer and Liverpool actively searching for a high-profile replacement, all eyes are now on whether the Reds will accelerate their pursuit.
If a deal can be struck, Rodrygo’s arrival at Anfield could mark one of the most significant moves of the summer — both in terms of quality and statement.
Meanewhile, The Athletic’s James Pearce recently cold water over any potential move for Rodrygo, revealing that the Brazilian is not ‘currently’ seen as a replacement for Diaz.
