Were the 24-year-old to decide this summer is time for a transfer, it might spark an interesting decision from Liverpool and the man who has long-admired the Brazilian's talent, Fenway Sports Group (FSG) CEO of football, Michael Edwards.
Reported by Radio MARCA in Spain, Rodrygo is experiencing a challenging period.
Having been previously instrumental to Los Blancos' La Liga and Champions League-winning exploits, he now finds himself pushed out of the starting XI by the front three of Vinicius Jr, Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham, so has been left with no alternative but to weigh up his options heading towards the next summer window.
The Brazilian was signed from Santos in 2018 for €45m (£38.2m) plus add-ons and has gone on to make 267 total appearances, scoring 68 goals and assisting a further 50 in that time.
However, it is Edwards in his former sporting director role with Liverpool who could actually be credited with discovering the then-teenage prodigy.

In 2017, the year Edwards struck up deals for Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, he also sent €3m (£2.5m) the way of Santos for their little-known talent.
By this point Rodrygo had not even signed a professional contract with his boyhood club in his homeland, let alone made his senior debut.
These milestones would arrive months later.
Making 80 appearances in three years with Santos, scoring 17 goals, the rest is history.

"We didn’t close the deal because I didn’t want to.
I wanted to stay at Santos even though the offer was very good," the winger would finally admit last year to The Guardian.
"The pathway they promised me would also have been very good for my career.
I wanted to stay at Santos and make a bit of history at the club.
"And that’s what happened.
