Liverpool have identified Rodrygo as the perfect replacement for Luis Diaz should the Colombian winger leave this summer.

Diaz’s future has been subject to much speculation in the past few weeks as he continues to stall over signing a new deal at the club.

Liverpool, keen on keeping him, had opened contract talks with him since the end of last season.

However, reports indicate that talks between Diaz and Liverpool have been slow and unproductive so far.

Several reports have also emerged indicating that the 28-year-old has decided to leave Liverpool this summer.

Bayern Munich and Barcelona are two sides credited with serious interest in his services, while Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr have also been named as a potential destination.

And so, with the future of Diaz increasingly looking like it is away from Anfield, Liverpool have begun looking for his potential replacement.

According to the latest report from French publication L’Equipe, Real Madrid star Rodrygo is the most likely candidate Liverpool could sign as a replacement for Diaz should he leave.

The report (via Get Football News France) claims that “if Luis Diaz were to leave, Real Madrid’s Rodrygo would “without a doubt” replace the former Porto winger.”

Losing Diaz will undoubtedly leave a gaping hole in Liverpool’s attack?

The winger flourished under Arne Slot’s coaching last season, helping to fill up the centre half position for some games.

He scored 17 times for Liverpool last season in all competitions, with only Mohamed Salah outscoring him last season.

However, should Liverpool sign Rodrygo as a replacement, they will be getting an equally talented and younger attacker.

The Brazilian has long been seen as one of Real Madrid’s crown jewels, part of the Brazilian core that helped the club transition to a new attacking frontier.

The 24-year-old looks tailormade for Arne Slot and Liverpool, with his ability to place across the front three making him a huge asset for any club.

It is already being reported that Liverpool will do everything in their power to sign him.

There is no doubt that getting him will be a huge coup for the Premier League champions.
