Liverpool’s willingness to bankroll another marquee purchase has thrust Real Madrid forward Rodrygo into the spotlight, raising the prospect of a Premier League switch at the end of a summer already dominated by record-breaking deals.

With Luis Diaz bound for Bayern Munich in a €75 million transfer, the Premier League champions now possess both the vacancy and the funds to tempt Los Blancos into selling a player they are unexpectedly prepared to sacrifice for the right price.

The Reds have already splashed more than £290 million on five senior recruits since the window opened, adding Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Giorgi Mamardashvili to a title-winning squad.

Rodrygo’s ability to drift centrally to combine with Florian Wirtz or split wider to free space for Cody Gakpo would be a major positive.

However, it looks like the Reds may have some Premier League competition should they want to secure the Brazilian:

Spanish journalist Ramón Álvarez de Mon, speaking on his YouTube channel, has revealed that Tottenham and Rodrygo have recently begun talks:

“I do have some pretty concrete information in relation to his current situation.”

“Rodrygo is still on vacation, he doesn’t join up with Madrid until 4th August for pre-season.”

“I have to tell you that I know that he has recently started talks with Tottenham.”

De Mon explains that Tottenham have been trying to convince the Real Madrid on their project:

“It’s a project that is expected to change ownership if it not doing so already.”

“It is thought a lot of money will be invested [into the project] and Rodrygo could be the spearhead of that project,” he explained.

“That’s what they are telling Rodrygo, it’s a new project where lots of money will be invested.”

“So, if the the representatives of Rodrygo have been in talks, so we can deduce that he is open to a move away from Real Madrid.”

However, the Radio Marca correspondent also mentioned Liverpool – with agent Pini Zahavi aware that a spot could open up at Anfield with a better sporting project than the North London club:

“Another option Rodrygo is considering, but I don’t know of any specific negotiations, is Liverpool,” De Mon continued.

“The agent of Rodrygo, Pini Zahavi, is waiting for that Liverpool option, because doubts may be there on a sporting level with Tottenham.”

“These doubts with Liverpool would not exist… It would be a great destination for someone coming from Real Madrid.”

“Liverpool would be an option that would appeal to him greatly, and Pini Zahavi is attentive to the possibly that a spot could arise in the Reds team.”
