Liverpool’s summer transfer spree shows no signs of slowing as the Reds could turn their attention to Real Madrid winger Rodrygo Goes.
Tipped as the preferred replacement for Luis Díaz should the Colombian depart for Bayern Munich, the 24-year-old finds himself on the outside looking in under Xabi Alonso.
Xabi Alonso overlooked him throughout Real Madrid’s Club World Cup campaign, with the Brazilian failing to start a game at the summer tournament.
According to L’Equipe, there is strong belief that if Diaz does make the move away, Liverpool’s top priority will be to lure the Brazilian to Merseyside.
Diaz’s departure would leave Liverpool with a significant gap in their attacking ranks.
The Colombian’s form flourished under Arne Slot last season, to the point where he even featured as an auxiliary centre-forward in certain matches.
Now Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the situation.
Speaking to Give Me Sport, the Italian transfer guru has reported that the Real Madrid man will sit down with his club in the coming days to determine whether he stays or leaves.
Furthermore, Romano suggested that talks for a transfer away from the Spanish capital would start at £86m:
“I’m told, also in this case, it’s still early stages,” said the transfer expert.
“Rodrygo has to speak to Real Madrid again in the next days, decide whether he wants to go or stay, and get a final price, likely to be over €100m (£86m) at the start of talks.”
“It’s not an advanced deal now.”
Such a fee closely mirrors Liverpool’s anticipated return for Diaz, creating a neat financial symmetry for the Reds.
The Brazilian forward has played a vital role for Real Madrid over the last five years?
During his time at the club, he has amassed 270 appearances, contributing significantly to their successes – including three La Liga championships and two Champions League triumphs.
But he now has the chance to become a main star at another top European club, with Real Madrid’s attack very stacked with the addition of Kylian Mbappe.
