Rodrygo to Liverpool talks played down as crucial transfer week approaches

Transfer news around Liverpool has simmered down in recent days after an explosive start to the week.

There is a feeling that the Reds are assessing their options as they approach the final week of the summer transfer window.

It is common knowledge that Liverpool still need to strengthen their attack, as the loss of Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Ben Doak leave the team significantly weaker than they were heading into this summer.

The Reds ambition to sign Alexander Isak all summer-long continues to throw up challenges, as Newcastle United remain committed to the idea that the Swede is not for sale.

Their resolve could weaken if they bring in a striker, but with minimal movement being made to get a deal over the line, the two clubs approach a tense final week to conclude the future of Alexander Isak.

Ian Doyle has stated that there is likely to be no plan B for Alexander Isak, as he is the ideal target for Liverpool, and that if the do not secure the services of the Swedish international before September 1st, they will return in the New Year to see if there is a bigger chance of Newcastle United letting him go there.

On top of the links to Isak, Rodrygo of Real Madrid has been tentatively linked with a move to Merseyside for some weeks now.

Whilst there has never been anything concrete, it was clear that Liverpool are admirers of the Brazilian winger, and there could have been an opportunity this summer given Xabi Alonso apparent dislike of the player.

However, Ian Doyle has put any rumours linking Rodrygo to Liverpool to bed, stating:

“Talk of Rodrygo of Real Madrid appears agent-driven and his reported financial package wouldn’t make much sense for the Reds.”

The idea of taking a talent off Real Madrid after the Spanish side’s acquisition of Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer would appeal to many, but the money involved does not align with Liverpool’s priorities, especially as the club continue to pursue a British record transfer of Alexander Isak.
