Roy Keane pushes away former Manchester United teammate after being offered captain’s armband in charity match

Roy Keane turned down the chance to take the captain's armband as he returned for Manchester United in a charity match against Liverpool.

The former United skipper, who spent 12 trophy-laden years at Old Trafford, was named among the substitutes as United took on their arch-rivals on Saturday at Anfield in their Legends of the North game.

Another United favourite Ronny Johnsen, a member of United's Treble-winning side in 1999, captained the side but approached Keane to hand over the armband upon his introduction.

Former Reds Mark Gonzalez and Florent Sinama Pongolle both scored in the second period to seal a 2-1 on the day and a 5-2 win on aggregate, having beaten United 3-1 at Old Trafford in the first leg of the charity series in May. It was a relatively quiet cameo from Keane who was unsurprisingly booed every time he touched the ball.
