Roy Keane believes that Liverpool could have the edge over Arsenal in the Premier League title race if they sign a defender.

Mikel Arteta's side face the task of taking Liverpool's title off them and ending their wait to reach the summit of English football.

In doing so, the Spaniard's team will need to overcome the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City, who earned a 4-0 win on the opening day against Wolves, with the Reds viewed by many as favourites to retain their crown.

The two clubs meet in the final match before the international break with the Gunners visiting Anfield looking to land an early blow in the title race.

However, Keane feels that Arsenal will need to shift their mentality as he highlighted a similar flaw that could come back to haunt them last season.

In his prediction, he had Arsenal to win the league, Liverpool to finish second and Manchester City in third.

In raising his point, the 54-year-old raised a comparison to Arne Slot's side and how they kill off an encounter after Arsenal drew 14 matches last season.

But he added that Arsenal are his pick for the Premier League title unless the Reds add a defender.

"You wonder why Arsenal are coming up short because they're happy to sit in at 1-0, is that the reason you drew so many last year?" Keane began.

"You see City and Liverpool, they say, 'can we get a second or third'.

"Even on a bad day for Liverpool, you still think they're going to score two or three goals, that's the challenge for Arsenal."

On the title race he added: "I never usually bet against Pep, maybe defensively, but I have that gut feeling - Arsenal might do it this year.

"But I just feel with Liverpool, if Liverpool get a centre-half in I'll change my mind.

"They've got that goal threat constantly but in terms of winning the league title, Arsenal [are] very good and if the attacking players turn up they'll have a hell of a chance.
