Graeme Souness told Super Sunday on Sky Sports that only Mohamed Salah can put his hand up for Liverpool and say he has had a good season.

The Anfield legend stated that he agrees with Roy Keane ‘100%’ that Liverpool ‘haven’t been good champions’.

It has been a testing season for those in Red, more of a test of their character than their quality because of the injuries that have hit the club.

But Souness thinks that the ‘big players’ at Liverpool haven’t responded well to those injury blows and they need to have a ‘close hard look at themselves’.

“I expected them to be a dominant team if not the dominant team of the next five years,” said Souness. “And they have shown this year that you can take nothing for granted.

“They have been vulnerable Roy’s (Keane) 100% correct in saying that they haven’t been good champions. They haven’t responded well, as everyone does in football, get injuries to key players at the wrong time.

“So, for Liverpool to spend nearly all the season without Van Dijk. The other guys, who you thought were big players, they haven’t responded very well. I am afraid, they have to have a close hard look at themselves.

“If you were to ask that group, one by one ‘have you had a good year this year?’ Then I only think maybe Mo Salah could put his hands up. He’s got the goals again. The rest need to have a close look at themselves.”

What has perhaps surprised people most is Liverpool losing that attacking threat whilst they had to deal with their injury woes at the back.

Both fullbacks, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, summer signing Thiago, Alisson Becker, and all the backup centre-backs have all struggled at one point this season.

But one man that has seemingly remained unfazed by it all is Salah, who is chasing down Tottenham’s Harry Kane for that Golden Boot.
