Kobbie Mainoo is increasingly likely to remain at Man United beyond the end of the summer transfer window despite interest from Chelsea.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the 20-year-old’s future and his new role in the squad under Ruben Amorim.

Amorim was not initially convinced by Mainoo, but has been won over by his performances in training and now values him as a key member of his squad.

This comes after former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Mainoo is set to remain at Old Trafford despite initial expectations that he would leave.

After talks over a new contract fell through earlier this year, the midfielder had been heavily linked with a permanent, big-money move away from United.

Meanwhile, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider on 2 August that Spurs considered signing Mainoo, but speculation has since gone quiet.

Brown told Football Insider on 31 July that Mainoo is happy to stay at Man United and plans to be a key part of Amorim’s squad for the upcoming season.

The England international has been working hard in pre-season to establish himself in the manager’s plans and is hoping to play an improved role in the starting XI.

O’Rourke explained that Mainoo is now expected to remain at Man United beyond the end of the window despite interest from Chelsea earlier this summer.

“I fully expect him to stay at Man United this summer,” he told Football Insider.

“I don’t think he’ll be on the move, obviously there was lots of talk about a new deal and that if a new deal couldn’t be agreed, he could move on.

“Chelsea showed a bit of interest in him as well earlier in the window.

“Now, he’s got his head down and he’s trying to cement himself in Ruben Amorim’s plans.

“It seems Amorim has been won over by Kobbie Mainoo because at the start he wasn’t too sure about the midfielder, but going forward he’s going to be a key part of his plans.

Amid speculation about potential outgoing players at Old Trafford, United have also set their sights on improving Amorim’s squad in the striker position.

Football Insider revealed on 1 August that Man United are pushing to sign Benjamin Sesko and believe they have the financial muscle to get a deal over the line.

It is expected to take an offer in excess of £70million to reach an agreement with RB Leipzig for his signature after Newcastle saw an initial offer turned down.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 3 August that Sesko wants to join Man United amid a growing confidence that they can win the race for his signature.
