Ruben Amorim was once again quizzed on his potential move to Liverpool ahead of the 2024/25.

The Sporting CP seems to be one of the main candidates to succeed Jurgen Klopp come the end of the season.

The German announced he would be stepping down at the end of the campaign, with the 39-year-old believed to be in line to replace him.

As a player, Amorim participated in the 2010 and 2014 World Cups for Portugal’s national team and won three league titles with Benfica.

After an injury led him to retire at 32, Amorim pursued a career in coaching, starting with the reserve team at Braga.

Just three months into his role, he was promoted to manage the main team.

At the age of just 36, Amorim took over at Sporting in 2020 and astonishingly guided the team to their first league title in almost 20 years.

Almost equally as impressive, he managed to win over the Sporting CP fans despite representing Benfica in his playing career.

His achievements have not only made him one of Europe’s best young managers, but they have also put Sporting in a position where they may win another championship, since they lead Benfica by four points with a game in hand.

Despite his lack of professional experience in the Premier League, Amorim is thought to speak the language fluently, which would facilitate any transition to Liverpool.

Ruben Amorim quizzed on Liverpool links

Last week, Amorim issued strong claims asserting that he had not met Liverpool for any interview and that no ‘agreement in principle’ was in place.

Now speaking in a press conference before Sporting’s Liga Portugal clash against Famalicão, Amorim was quizzed if his players ask him about his future:

“I didn’t say anything to the players,” Amorim began as quoted by O Jogo (via Sport Witness).

“When it was mentioned that I had an agreement with Liverpool, I felt the need to talk, but I left that part for the press conference.”

“I don’t get anything from the players, they just ask about days off,” smiled Amorim.

Sporting can extend their lead to seven points at the top of the table should they win against Famalicão on Tuesday night.

According to The Telegraph, the Reds could potentially secure Amorim’s services for a bargain fee of just £12.8 million.

While his release clause can be activated at the end of the season, it is noteworthy that it decreases further in 2025, potentially allowing room for negotiation.
