Ruben Amorim has dropped a worrying admission about his role as Man United manager as matters continue to get tougher at Old Trafford.

Supporters were excited for the 2025/26 campaign to kick off, with the forward line revamped by the signings of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha over the summer.

Rasmus Hojlund appears set to leave Man United, with Kobbie Mainoo possibly not too far behind the Danish forward as the midfielder pushes for much-needed game time away from the Theatre of Dreams.

It is understandable to see so many stars wanting to leave the sinking ship, especially after their Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town, which saw Bayern Leverkusen take a brutal swipe at Man United.

The midweek defeat to League Two opposition is exactly what has brought on the comments made by United’s manager as Amorim’s side prepare to face Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday, 30 August.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Amorim said: “Sometimes I want to quit, sometimes I want to be here 20 years.

Every time we have one defeat like that.

“I am going to be like that.

Sometimes I am going to say I hate my players, sometimes I am going to say I love my players,” which should give Sir Jim Ratcliffe plenty to ponder.

Senior figures at Old Trafford should be protecting their players, speaking with absolute pride to be appointed as the manager, but the early losses appear to have already taken a toll on Amorim.

Amorim is already under immense pressure at Man United, and with Mick Brown speaking to Football Insider, defeat against Burnley this weekend could spell disaster for the former Sporting CP man.

The 40-year-old has won just 17 of his 45 matches in charge, recording a 37 per cent win record since November, leaving him open to severe criticism from the faithful, match-going crowd.

It remains to be seen exactly who could replace the manager after such a short tenure with the Red Devils, but his quotes to the media certainly give the owners something to think about.

Questions were raised over his ability to manage United right from the very start.

The difference, however, was that he had the energy to combat those concerns and push forward.

Now, with every new defeat, the next is all the more shocking than the last, and he could be running out of time to turn things around.
