Man United fans have reacted in unison to call for Ruben Amorim to be sacked following the latest update on Kobbie Mainoo’s future.

Mainoo had been a key figure under Erik ten Hag, scoring in the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City and earning a start in England’s EURO final defeat to Spain.

However, since Ruben Amorim entered the picture in November 2024, the Englishman’s playing time has been severely limited.

Contract talks earlier this year reportedly broke down, and the midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away, with Football Insider revealing Tottenham and Chelsea have interest in Mainoo.

After being an unused substitute in both of Man United’s opening two games this season, a fresh update has now been provided regarding Mainoo’s immediate future.

Former United chief scout Mick Brown has exclusively told Football Insider that Mainoo could be tempted to leave Man United in the closing stages of the summer transfer window.

Despite inconsistent performances from Manuel Ugarte and Mason Mount, the 20-year-old has continued to play a rotational role, prompting speculation that he may now reconsider his future at Old Trafford.

Reports now suggest that Real Madrid are the latest club to express interest in Mainoo, potentially in a loan deal, even though the midfielder has just two years remaining on his contract.

Earlier this summer, it had appeared likely that Mainoo would stay at Manchester United, but recent developments and his limited game time have accelerated talks over a possible exit.

Mainoo has become a fan favourite at Old Trafford thanks to his rise through the academy, while the jury remains out on Amorim’s tenure.

Many Man United supporters called for Amorim to be sacked following last season’s disappointing campaign, where United finished 15th and lost to Tottenham in the Europa League final.

However, the Portuguese coach has received backing this summer with Man United signing the likes of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

With no player exits generating significant transfer fees and contract talks stalling, Mainoo’s departure could become a real possibility — prompting fans to turn their frustration towards Amorim instead.

One supporter reacted to the news: “I’ll be honest, I’d rather Amorim go than Mainoo.

I’m sure I’m not alone.” Another added: “Ruben will be sacked in no time, Kobbie must be strong and stay put.”
