Russell Martin has delivered a major clue over his Rangers future after the embarrassing 2-0 defeat to Hearts.

Winless in five matches, it is all doom and gloom at the Ibrox as Rangers fans were left furious by the performance against Hearts.

The former Southampton manager made a clear statement over Belgian midfielder Nicolas Raskin who is now planning his exit from Rangers.

Lawrence Shankland netted twice for Hearts to a chorus of boos as Martin gave an intriguing response to his shaky future in Glasgow.

Speaking to BBC Sport Scotland (13 September) after the crushing defeat, leaving the Gers on just four points in the league, the Englishman was interviewed in the aftermath of the game.

The ex-Saints boss had been openly backed by the Rangers board but when asked if he feels he still has the support of the hierarchy, Martin said: “We’ll see.”

These words clearly demonstrated the disappointment and mounting pressure for the former Swansea City manager in Glasgow as his side hit a new low.

Having crashed out of the Champions League qualifiers in spectacular style and unable to revive their domestic form, the Gers are in an awful spot right now.

Without a win in the league and with four draws, Hearts delivered Martin’s first loss in the Scottish Premiership which feels like it was overdue.

Indeed, the board know that this is a major project that will require time to come to fruition, but fans are becoming restless with the club’s terrible displays.

Of course, if the Rangers hierarchy do opt to sack the Englishman, they would need to quickly find a replacement which may prove to be difficult.

Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are both back in the market but would they come to the blue half of Glasgow to take on a stuttering squad.

There is a distinct lack of confidence at the Ibrox at the moment and time is definitely running out for Martin to save his job.
