Liverpool’s Premier League season continues on Monday night with a difficult trip to Newcastle United.

Ryan Gravenberch makes admission ahead of Newcastle United game

It is the Reds’ first away match of the new campaign, and the test could not be tougher.

Newcastle finished fifth last season and will play Champions League football this year.

They are known for their physicality and strength at set-pieces, which caused Liverpool problems in the Carabao Cup final and in last season’s 3-3 draw at St.

James’ Park.

One player eager to step back in for this challenge is Ryan Gravenberch.

The Dutch midfielder missed the Community Shield against Crystal Palace because of the birth of his child and was then suspended for the opening-day win against Bournemouth.

His absence was unusual given how central he was to last season’s title-winning side.

Gravenberch started 37 of 38 league games, becoming a reliable figure in the defensive midfield role under Arne Slot.

Now, with Liverpool looking to build momentum after the 4-2 victory over Bournemouth, the 23-year-old returns at the right time.

The manager has stressed the importance of balance, and Gravenberch is expected to bring more stability to midfield against a Newcastle team that thrives on intensity.

Speaking to the club’s official site, Gravenberch shared his excitement about being back in the squad.

“I’m feeling good, I’m feeling great.”

“Obviously I couldn’t play the first Premier League game, so I’m happy to be back with the team.”

On Newcastle, he admitted the size of the challenge ahead.

“Newcastle are really good, we know it will be a really tough game for us.”

“They are really physical, they are good in set-pieces, so we prepare really good for them and we want to show that we give our all against them on Monday.”

Gravenberch also reflected on watching the Bournemouth win from the sidelines.

“It was a really nice game to watch, to be honest.”

“I think we played a really good game up front and then after when Chiesa scored the 3-2 you saw the crowd, the atmosphere was just amazing.”

“Also from the side it was amazing to watch.”

The midfielder stressed that work is being done behind the scenes.

“We analysed the game against Bournemouth, of course, and also against Crystal Palace.”

“We knew what we had to do better.”

“So obviously we train on it, we train on [being] in possession and everything.”

He also pointed out that new signings are still adjusting.

“Also for the new players, they need time.

Obviously they are starting now, so it’s a bit difficult to have a lot of time.”

“But I think they are doing really great?

The Premier League, it’s a different competition, also for them it’s a different country.”

“They adapt quite well and I think they will do really great for us.”

Finally, he recalled last season’s 3-3 draw at Newcastle.

“For me it was my first time that I played there last season.”

“To be honest, it was a really tough game for myself, so I know what you can expect now.”

“They are really physical and they gave everything.”

“We know from the Carabao Cup final they are good in set-pieces.”

“We need to prepare well and then we will show on Monday what we can [do].”

Gravenberch’s words underline how seriously Liverpool are taking this trip.

The Reds know the battle at St
