Milos Kerkez has been recognised for his performances in the Premier League just weeks into his Liverpool career.

Arne Slot‘s overhaul of Liverpool’s squad this summer has seen the Dutchman revamp both full-back areas at Anfield, with Andy Robertson now 31 and Trent Alexander-Arnold finally moving to Real Madrid.

Jeremie Frimpong was signed from Bayer Leverkusen for £29.5million to replace the latter, and Liverpool also upgraded at left-back by bringing in Kerkez after their club-record £116m move for Florian Wirtz.

Liverpool shelled out a further £40m to sign Kerkez from Bournemouth on 26 June as their only addition within the Premier League so far, but further arrivals could be on the way in the form of Marc Guehi and Alexander Isak.

Kerkez was one of four debutants to start in Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth on 15 August, as fellow new arrival Hugo Ekitike scored the opening goal in a 4-2 victory for Slot’s side.

The Hungary international maintained his connection to his former club at the PFA awards on Tuesday, as he was the only Bournemouth player to be named in the 2024–25 Premier League Team of the Year.

Kerkez posted on Instagram on 19 August, posing with new team-mates Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch, and sent a message to show his gratitude.

Gravenberch responded with a ‘fire’ emoji to Kerkez’s post, which said: “Thanks to the players who voted, proud to be in this team, work continues!”

Football Insider Verdict

Bournemouth’s huge progress under Andoni Iraola is exemplified by Kerkez’ selection in the Team of the Year, and he’s far from the only key man to be sold this summer after the Cherries’ ninth-placed finish.

Iraola has also lost Dean Huijsen and Illia Zabarnyi to Real Madrid and PSG respectively, as well as Dango Ouattara to Brentford for £42m on 16 August, accumulating close to £200m in incoming transfer fees.

The Cherries have responded with the signings of Adrien Truffert, Djordje Petrovic, Bafode Diakite and most recently Ben Gannon Doak from Liverpool, and there’s little doubt that Europe’s top clubs will have their eyes on the ‘next Kerkez’ this season.
