Arne Slot’s approach this summer has been very different to his last, with the Dutchman using the previous year to identify areas that need improvement.
Although winning the Premier League, Slot has clearly spotted a few positions that need tweaking and his first-team squad will see a handful of fresh faces as Liverpool look to retain their title.
Florian Wirtz’s arrival is the one that has sent shockwaves throughout Europe, although the signing of his close mate Jeremie Frimpong equally looks like a good piece of business after costing just £30m.
His addition is a fascinating one too as he is incredibly versatile and forward-thinking, something that should suit Slot’s side perfectly.
However, former Liverpool full-back Steve Nicol doesn’t think Frimpong is a good signing, although ex-Red Sander Westerveld has a very conflicting opinion.

To be a successful full-back at Liverpool, you need to be more than happy to bomb down the wing and create for the team, an area in which Frimpong excels.
Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has even been playing Frimpong at right wing, suggesting Slot could do the same if needed.

Ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Westerveld was also quick to point out how versatile the Reds’ new signing is and why he will be a revelation.
“He is perfect in Arne Slot’s team.
He can play anywhere on the right, as a defender, midfielder, striker,” Westerveld said in an interview with Sky Sports.

“He’s got so much ability, he’s quick, he’s defending well, he’s got a good pass in him.
Of course, it’s difficult to miss Trent with his passing, but I think we have a good back-up now”
Replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold was always going to be a near-impossible job, but Liverpool may have just got this one spot on.
Liverpool now have two excellent options at right-back in the form of Conor Bradley and Frimpong, although the latter could see his minutes increase from elsewhere on the pitch.
For example, Mohamed Salah will miss Liverpool games due to his involvement at AFCON next season, and this could be up to six matches.
That leaves a vacancy in this position and despite having plenty of attacking options, not many have played out on the right, leaving Frimpong as the perfect candidate to fill in.
This shows the versatility that Westerveld was talking about and why he is a manager’s dream, suggesting that fans may be more inclined to agree with their former goalkeeper than they are with Nicol at this point in time.
