It seems that there may be a new hope for Darwin Nunez in the form of the Saudi Pro League.
After three seasons at Anfield, the striker appears destined to pack his bags and leave Merseyside.
Napoli have led the chase, lodging an initial €50 million-plus-bonuses bid for the 26-year-old striker, while Saudi Pro League outfits remain in the mix.
However, the Serie A champions withdrew their interest as they were not willing to reach Liverpool’s reported 70 million price tag.
Liverpool have wasted no time in reinforcing their attack despite the Uruguayan still being on the books at Anfield.
Earlier this week, the club confirmed the £69 million signing of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt (rising to £79 million with add-ons), securing the France under-21 forward on a six-year deal.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s insistent pursuit of Alexander Isak puts Nunez’s future in further doubt.
And it seems that there could be life-line emerging from the Saudi Pro League once again.
Al-Hilal are receiving strong recommendations from manager Simone Inzaghi to sign Darwin Nunez, according to Saudi newspaper Al Riyadh.
Inzaghi, the former Inter Milan boss now steering Al-Hilal, is said to be pressing the club to secure the Uruguayan, reigniting interest from January when deals with both Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr collapsed.
Liverpool have set their asking price for Darwin Nunez at a minimum of €70 million (£61m), with expectations that the final figure could climb as high as €80 million (£70m)—an amount shaped by the significant offer tabled by Al-Nassr during the January window.
Despite the ongoing speculation surrounding his future, Nunez remains firmly involved in pre-season preparations under new manager Arne Slot.
The Uruguayan striker has joined the Reds’ 29-man squad on tour in Hong Kong and Japan and is in contention to feature from the start when Liverpool face AC Milan this Saturday
