Darwin Nunez and his turbulent three-year spell at Liverpool appears set to end this summer, with multiple reports confirming the club’s readiness to sell the Uruguayan striker.

Despite flashes of potential, his inconsistent finishing, diminished role under Arne Slot, and mounting interest from Saudi Arabia have made his departure increasingly inevitable.

In 27 Premier League appearances (8 starts) this season, the Uruguayan has managed just 5 goals and 2 assists

Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal emerged as frontrunners for Nunez’s signature after a £558,000-a-week offer in January 2025, which the player was eager to accept.

However, the Anfield club did not want to risk disturbing a squad that was competing for the Premier League and Champions League at the time.’

Fabrizio Romano confirmed in April that his exit is all but guaranteed:

“I can confirm once again, this is the clear direction of the story.”

“Darwin Nunez is expected to go.

Darwin Nunez is ready for a new chapter.”

And now the player’s price tag has been revealed ahead of the summer window.

It was widely touted that Saudi clubs would come calling for the 26-year-old once the season has ended.

And now this seems to be a reality with Ian Doyle of the Liverpool Echo reporting that Al-Hilal now want Darwin Nunez before the Club World Cup – and are looking to exploit a special transfer window from June 1–10:

“The Reds, though, are likely to be more receptive in the summer, with Al-Hilal believed ready to make a concerted effort to sign Nunez as soon as the transfer window opens in June 1 in order to have the player available for the FIFA Club World Cup.”

The total transfer package for Nunez was structured to potentially reach £85.36m through various performance-related add-ons.

It is believed that Benfica have already received €10m (£8.6m) of the prospective add-ons from Liverpool, with those clauses triggered when he reached specific appearance milestones in the Premier League and Champions League.

It’s clear that Liverpool will lose out financially should the Uruguayan be sold this summer, but it seems the club are ready to cut their losses.
