All other coronavirus tests within the Scotland camp returned negative on Monday morning while the SFA are in discussions with Public Health England regarding 'close contacts', but none have been identified.

Scotland captain Robertson's Instagram story showed a video from the team hotel of Gilmour enjoying some ping pong but after news broke of the young midfielder’s positive test on Monday morning, it was swiftly removed.

A Scottish FA statement read: “Having liaised with Public Health England since the positive test was recorded, Billy will now self-isolate for 10 days and therefore miss tomorrow's UEFA EURO 2020 Group D match against Croatia at Hampden.” A man of the match display against England from the 20-year-old on his first start for his country raised expectations that Scotland could progress from a winner-takes-all clash against Croatia at on Tuesday night.

Although he wasn't one of the players in question himself, Robertson's Liverpool team-mate Thiago Alcantara - who previously tested positive for coronavirus on September 29 last year - found himself embroiled in a Covid scare ahead of the competition when Spain's European Championship preparations were thrown into turmoil due to two positive results in the squad (Sergio Busquets then Diego Llorente), just five days before their opening fixture against Sweden in Seville.

The Daily Mail reports that it remains unclear at this stage if anyone else in Scotland's camp will be forced into isolation as a close contact of Gilmour with the Scottish Football Association claiming the Chelsea player had no close contacts in the squad, when contacted by them.
