Liverpool return to Premier League action this Sunday, September 14, with a challenging trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley.

It’s their first match since players were spread across four continents for international duty, and Reds supporters know all too well how tough that initial game back can be for the squad as they readjust after the break.

The Reds have scored in 37 consecutive Premier League fixtures—an all-time club record -and remain the only side yet to drop points this season.

Slot’s addition of Alexander Isak on deadline day furnishes extra firepower, though the Sweden striker is expected to begin on the bench as he builds match fitness.

In his stead, Hugo Ekitike’s bright start will shoulder the attacking burden.

In midfield, the absence of Curtis Jones through injury opens the door for rotation, but otherwise, Slot arrives with a near-fully fit squad following the international break.

“Most players returned without issue,” Slot confirmed in Friday’s press conference, though he lamented Jones’s setback and cautioned against over-expecting Isak’s minutes early on,

Meanwhile, Burnely was heading into the game with seven injury/fitness worries, with manager Scott Parker only able to clear Hjalmar Ekdal from the worry list after the Swedish defender had to had to leave the pitch early vs Kosovo this past Monday:

“He’s okay, yeah,” Parker said as quoted by the Burnley Express.

“He came off because he felt a little something, but it’s nothing severe.

He trained with us today, so he’s okay.”

“We are where we are and where we have been really.”

That means up to six players are going to be missing from the clash:

Zeki Amdouni – out

Amdouni underwent anterior cruciate ligament surgery in pre-season and is sidelined for the vast majority of 2025/26.

The 24-year-old striker sustained the ACL tear in July and faces an estimated return around April 2026 after completing his rehabilitation programme.

Armando Broja – doubt

Broja remains a fitness doubt due to a lack of match sharpness rather than a specific injury.

He did not feature in Burnley’s 3-2 defeat to Manchester United prior to the international break.

Bashir Humphreys – doubt

Humphreys has been managing a persistent quadriceps strain?

He played the first half of Burnley’s Carabao Cup tie as part of his gradual return, but Scott Parker cautions that progress remains slow.

Connor Roberts – out

The Welsh international has been sidelined with a muscular knock sustained in training.

Scott Parker expected the right-back to rejoin the squad once the break concludes, but it the Clarets boss confirmed in his pre-Liverpool presser that he remains “a few weeks out”.

Axel Tuanzebe – out

Tuanzebe underwent minor thumb surgery in August and will be out until the injury heals fully.

The defender is now back on the grass in light sessions, though he is not yet available for match selection as he completes his post-operative recovery.
