An Ireland Legends XI will take on a team of Liverpool Legends at the Aviva Stadium in April, in aid of SupportSeán, the Sean Cox appeal.

The game will take place on Friday, 12 April and there will also be a gala dinner with all the proceeds raised from the event donated to the Sean Cox Rehabilitation Trust.

"The solidarity shown from supporters throughout the world for Sean is incredible and we thank everyone for their continued support, including the Football Association of Ireland and its CEO, John Delaney, in helping to arrange this game."

Full details of the match, including the squads and ticket sales, along with the gala dinner, will be announced in the near future.

We hope this unique legends game in Ireland’s capital will be a huge success and help generate vital funds to support Sean’s rehabilitation.

Various fundraising efforts have been organised to support Mr Cox through his recovery since the attack and his family says that the Support Seán campaign has raised €1.1m to date.

Sean’s wife, Martina Cox, said: "Sean has been supporting Liverpool all of his life and to have this match in Dublin in his name will be a special day.
