Aston Villa fans are in meltdown over Morgan Rogers despite Aston Villa convincingly beating AS Roma in a pre-season friendly.
The 23-year-old began proceedings on the bench at the Bescot Stadium on Wednesday, 6 August, taking a well-earned break before coming on for the second half to see out the win over their Serie A opponents.
Emi Buendia got the party started for Villa, rifling home a free-kick from just outside the penalty area before Jacob Ramsey doubled their lead, and Ollie Watkins headed home a third before half-time.
Donyell Malen was able to add a fourth after replacing Watkins during the break, but Villa supporters were far more concerned by one of their stars, who was no longer on the pitch.
After just a handful of minutes on the pitch, having replaced Buendia, Rogers found himself writhing in pain on the floor after a collision with an opposing midfielder.
The medics were quickly on the scene to check out Rogers, who has been linked with Chelsea this summer, before helping the star to his feet and taking him down the tunnel to the changing rooms.

It was a rather disappointing sight to see, especially with just nine days until the Villans’ Premier League opener against Newcastle United, having notched 14 goals and 13 assists in all competitions last season.
He started 37 of Villa’s 38 Premier League matches last term and played a key role in their Champions League run, finally bowing out to eventual winners PSG in the quarter-finals.
One supporter went as far as to claim the “season is over already”, while another wrote: “Full panic after good signing news,” suggesting that the transfer of Evann Guessand needed to be balanced out.
Understandably, fans will be thinking the worst until Rogers steps back onto the pitch, whether that be in the next friendly fixtures against Marseille and Villarreal or if they have to wait until Newcastle.
Either way, social media is in a frenzy right now, and only Emery and his backroom staff will know the real extent of Rogers’ injury ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
